When we cannot feel for our fellow man, we are like flesh with nerve damage.  Those with nerve damage will tell you, it is not a good thing.  It is painful and debilitating.  When you can see your brother sleeping on the streets, and you do not see yourself there in his stead, then the body of mankind will feel pain, and debilitation.
